The Challenge
Described as the wacky races meets scrapheap challenge, the Plymouth-Dakar rally has for five years been the embarrassing poor relation of the bona-fide championship event, the Paris-Dakar Rally. For the potty Plymouth version, which raises funds for charity, performance vehicles are substituted for bashed-up bangers (which must be purchased for under £100) and the entourage of support teams and film crews are substituted for absolutely nothing, in the 3000 mile, 22 day scramble to Africa.
About Team AMOC
Into the event that sells itself as ‘painlessly disorganised’ will step Team Running AMOC - GVA Grimley Partner John Tinley and firm friend and fire sales engineer Roger Ashby.
The team have traded in their regular outfit of motorcycle and sidecar for a aged London taxi and are hopeful that the hackney carriage, currently parked in a Berkshire cowshed, will face up to the challenge.

Why the charity LandAid?

We have chosen Land Aid to be our principle charity because of their continued work in supporting homeless people. LandAid is the charity of the UK property sector from which its support is drawn. It is run by a Board of Trustees from within the industry and celebrated its twenty-first anniversary in 2006.
Their “Foundations for Life” project needs financial support and it is our hope that through this event, we can provide a much needed boost to their fund raising activities. Foundations for Life is an active partnership between LandAid and Centrepoint and hopes to provide a meaningful and lasting change to the prospects of young homeless people looking to escape the cycle of dependency.
